If you have the chance, be sure to taste some of the incredible Mexican baked goods. It is difficult to pass a bakery without entering as the aroma of freshly baked bolillos (French rolls) and pan dulce (sweet bread) wafts into the street.
The Mexicans have named their baked goods as whimsically as the Italians have named their pastas. Conchas (shells), orejas (ears), cuernos (horns), and cochinitos (little pigs) are only a few favorites.
Others include flan and pie de queso. As for restaurants serving the three main meals, there are fine restaurants at the hotels on the resort. Five themed restaurants at Club Med offer the most exotic dining in Huatulco.
One is a Marrakech-inspired Casbah, where diners sit at low-slung tables and rest their backs against pillows covered in rich Moroccan textiles. If you want to eat where the locals do, try one of the thatched roof restaurants that specialize in fresh-from-the-sea fish, lobster, and shrimp.
Huatulco's cuisine is the cuisine of Oaxaca, and Oaxacan cooking is widely regarded as one of Mexico's top regional cuisines. Many dishes tend to be exotic and very tasty. King of Oaxacan food is, of course, the Mole, which reaches its height here in dozens of varieties.
Other popular main courses are jerk beef enchiladas served with chilaquiles -tortilla strips and sauce, and wild boars. The sea food is fresh and excellent. The truly daring won't be disappointed by the many exotic dishes like iguana or grasshoppers.
